Finding the Right Job Quickly

Finding the right job can be tricky. It would be great if the company of your dreams called you up as soon as you graduated from college and offered you the job you always wanted. Anyone who has ever been hired for a job knows this is never the case.

Whether you are a newly graduated individual or a seasoned professional, you will need to do some serious legwork to find the right job.

Obtaining a new position can be difficult, but it is much easier to know where to look and start your job search with a strong resume and cover letter. Consider checking the following sources when seeking your next job.

Newspaper

While it is not the most likely place to find them, some companies still post job vacancies in the newspaper, a widespread practice when dealing with new businesses.

Online classifieds are the easiest way to peruse them. Typically, newspaper postings don’t include in-depth details, so you may want to use the contact email or phone number to find out more information before you apply. Most postings listed in the newspaper include details on applying for the position and a contact number to gain more information.

Local City Websites

Almost every town or city has its own website that posts public sector job openings.  It is a great source to consult when seeking a government job, ranging from teaching, waste management to policing. These job postings are often searchable by profession or department, making them an invaluable tool for any job-hungry individual.

Company Websites

Almost every company in existence has a company website, and, most often, companies will post their job openings directly on their website. Even if they don’t post the exact openings they are hiring for, they may have a page dedicated to job openings, with contact information for those interested in applying to any open position.

Once you have identified the companies that you would like to work for, you can check their websites weekly for jobs. If you are not consistent in checking company websites, however, you could easily miss a position that would be perfect for you.

Job Boards

Searching online job boards has become the most popular way to search for a job these days. You can upload your resume directly to the job boards to make it faster and easier to apply to jobs.

When using this method, it’s essential to stay on top of them because you don’t want to miss out. Since this is the most popular way to search for jobs, there will be stiff competition for all the positions you apply for using this method.

Internships, Contract Work, and Temp Jobs

If you lack experience in your field or don’t see many postings for your profession, you have options. Inquire about internships, contract work, or temporary positions with the companies you are interested in.

Many companies offer these sorts of positions to professionals just starting or to cover other employees on maternity leave or sabbatical. This is a great way to get your foot in the door and amass experience.

Recruiters

You may also want to send your resume to hired companies, especially to recruit professionals for open positions. Sometimes the job you can get through these companies is much better than what you could find independently.

Looking for a new job is serious work, and it may take longer than expected. The key is to start with an accomplishment-based, keyword-rich, visually appealing resume and cover letter. When you have these documents fine-tuned, keep applying for jobs because no company will come looking for you. Be active in your job search, and eventually, you will find the job you have been looking for.
